About Jo

I grew up a misfit; more an octagonal peg than a square one. A partial explanation is that my father was a retired Marine Lt. Colonel we called Poddy and “Mama Jo” was obsessed with dolls. Having inanimate people watching my every move prepared me for a life as a performer. I was used to having a captive audience. Is this sounding like a John Water’s movie?

I became a hit radio DJ in the late 1970s when that format was still the domain of men. For awhile I was known on the radio as “The Rock and Roll Madame.” To discover more about those days that felt like an out-of-body experience, click on the Listen page.

Now I’m a scribe/story junkie and easily tire of the sound of my voice (though relentless self-promotion is part of my job). I’m more interested in how my words affect others; what your story is. A book about me (if it’s any good) is really about you. Misfits of the world, welcome.

Leather and a beaded gown. Why not?
