Hi there. It’s been a busy summer as I part with more of my mom’s dolls (always bittersweet), write, and try out recipes from OPPOSITES ATTACK for a future cookbook. When the latter will become a reality is unknown but it’s given me a great excuse to cook new things and see friends I usually only see on Facebook. Next up is the Wild Boar Daube. Small Spoiler Alert: One of the characters in the novel slays a wild boar in self defense and then has a grand feast with the kill. I’m doing the feast part. There are many places to buy exotic meats on the net. D’artagnan is owned by a French woman. I took that as a good sign. I also picked up some white and black truffle butter there. May have to go back for the morel mushrooms.
I also wanted to share some press about the book. I especially love the wonderful reviews that readers are giving it. Merci, merci if you’ve posted a glowing review online.
First, from NPR’s WFDD Media Critic, Mary Dalton. (Translation of first line: “This is a delightful book.”) Click here to read it and her other reviews. Thank you, Ms. Dalton, for writing it, and for admitting you stayed up late to finish it.
And here’s Tina Firesheets piece in the Sunday News & Record.
Hope your summer is going well. Stop by Facebook or Twitter and say bonjour!
First, Opposite Attacks was a fun summer read. Really enjoyed it, but then you, out of pure generosity, added the recipes of the book at the end!! That’s pure genius! I, compulsive addicted reader, told my husband, complete non-reading material; that I would love to share, and bring to life, some recipes from your book. Being a gourmet himself, he obliged. I made tonight the best scallops I ever made with the fennel that I was cooking for the first time… They were spectacular, amazing, beyond description!!! I personally think they were better than the ones we had at Gordon Ramsey restaurant in NY! Thank you so much for the pleasure you gave me by reading your book, but also to make it come alive in such a way!!!
Merci, merci. That recipe came from Mary-James Lawrence. If you ever want a customized Provence tour, she’s the one to see. Or find her on Facebook and salivate over her photos. Thank you so much for reading, cooking, and writing! – Jo
